A major study has shown that there are many ways to use Celexa to help with depression and anxiety, a common side effect of which is anxiety.

The medication Lexapro and Celexa were most commonly prescribed.
Patients who took Lexapro and Celexa had a lower rate of depression and anxiety compared to those who took Celexa. Lexapro is a non-selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that is used to treat depression.
Celexa, the brand name for the SSRI Celexa, is the only medication that has been approved for use in depression and anxiety.

The researchers also found that patients who took Lexapro and Celexa experienced fewer side effects than patients who took the medication alone.
“The current findings suggest that the treatment of depression and anxiety may have potential side effects that need to be monitored during clinical trials,” said the study’s lead author, Dr. Michael E. Jackson, M. D., professor of psychiatry, and director of the University of Illinois School of Medicine’s Clinical Psychiatry Research Center.
“It’s clear that depression and anxiety are different conditions, so the effects of both may not be identical.”
Researchers at the University of Chicago Medical School and the University of Pennsylvania had previously shown that Lexapro can help patients with depression and anxiety with less common side effects compared to SSRI antidepressants. The team found that patients taking Lexapro experienced fewer side effects, as well as fewer adverse effects, compared to patients taking the medication alone.

The researchers used clinical trial data from the five-week open-label extension of the study to compare the drug with Celexa.
They found that Celexa significantly reduced the rates of depression and anxiety symptoms and increased the rates of other common side effects, including insomnia, dry mouth, weight gain, and increased risk of suicidal thoughts.

Dr. Jackson said he was not involved in the study and would not comment on the results.
“This is a huge study, and the data provided by the study may be too good to be true for it to be true,” he said. “The study results should be interpreted with caution and in the light of other potential side effects, such as sedation and weight gain, and in the context of a larger study, the results should be interpreted with caution and in the light of the findings of this study.”

Jackson said that while the results may have been interesting, there was a need to carefully examine how the medication worked to better understand the effects of Celexa and other SSRI antidepressants.
The study’s primary endpoint was depression and anxiety severity, which is measured by the number of depressive symptoms or anxiety symptoms in the patient and the severity of anxiety symptoms.
“It was important to look at the number of depressive symptoms, because the number of depressive symptoms is more than the number of anxiety symptoms,” Jackson said.
